Lily in Blue

Hi everyone, Melissa here with a page I made using the beautiful Scraps of Elegance kit Lisa's Sweet September.

This is a photo of Lily Elsie, an actress in the early part of the 20th century. Since the page has a lot of blue, that's how I came up with the title.

I was inspired by a Scraps of Elegance sketch from January, 2014 for the design.

I made the big flower with a coffee filter, using a Martha Stewart flower as a guide.  I hand cut four pieces from the filter, and four pieces of blue tulle. I  put the paper in  a pool of blue watercolor. When dry I put  a tulle and paper layer together, and folded it in four. I then put it on a small circle of paper with glue on it.  I repeated this another three times.

Pretty In Pink

Hi everyone,Melissa here with a page I made using the beautiful Scraps of Elegance kit, Lisa's Sweet September.

I put gesso on the page using a credit card, and later with cosmetic sponges.  I ripped up some papers to put behind the photo, then put on texture paste with stencils.  I painted the sunburst, put on crackle paint, and  applied layers of grey and gold mica powders. I used Inka Gold Metallic Rub on the sun's rays, and gold mica powder.

I poured Dimensional Magic over beads, sequins, and crystals in the little Prima frames. I lightly painted with Inka Gold over the dried result, to take some of the bright shine off.

Pieces of the Past

Hi everyone, Melissa here with a page using the beautiful August Scraps of Elegance Kit, Mallika's Whimsy.

I started by putting gesso on with a credit card.   I stamped all over but then covered most of it up by sponging on more gesso, I didn't like all the contrast of the black and white, and it was kind of busy.

I put texture paste on with a stencil.

I made flowers using sizzlits and papers from the kit, and plain white paper. I painted the plain flowers by placing them in a puddle of yellow watercolor on my craft sheet.  When dry I brushed on some green.

I layered on pieces of paper from the kit, and painted them.

I painted the background, originally I was only going to stick to yellow and green on the whole page.  I tried some lavender micro beads around the green bling in the center of the flowers and was so happy with the way it looked, I started putting purple all over. I put gesso on the flowers, and painted on purple, and later a little gold Viva Decor. I also added some platinum stickles, and some dark purple Lindy's on the tips.

I couldn't decide on a title until the very end. I wanted to put on a little tulle, and thought well, maybe a little piece. I held it against the page, then noticed the scissors.  I had my title, and glued on some snipped tulle.

I drew the face on the upper right, then erased it, but not entirely.  I thought it looked a little weird to put it there, but then kind of liked the erased version.  I had traced some lines of the face with tracing paper, then transferred it to the page by using a piece of carbon paper. I put the carbon between the tracing paper and the page, and drew over the traced lines with a pencil.

Blue Eyes

Hi everyone, Melissa here. I made this with the beautiful August Scraps of Elegance kit, Mallika's Whimsy. A friend of mine let me use a photo of her daughter.

I started this by putting on a thin layer of gesso with a credit card. I then put a paintbrush into gesso and flung it on the page, and repeated this several times.I like the the way the thin squiggly lines look. It did take awhile to dry, even with using a heat gun. I put on some texture paste, and then painted and flicked on colors.  I used some crackle accent, and topped it with purple chalk and distress ink. The painted sizzlit leaves and flowers are from older projects.
