Purple Shine

I used the beautiful Scraps of Elegance July kit Patricia's Memoirs with this photo of me, from a long time ago. I'm standing in the backyard of a small house my husband and I rented for awhile, he was working nearby. That house you see wasn't mine. It was one street over on the Pacific Ocean, at Channel Islands, Oxnard, California.
This was one of the best times of my life.

The piece with the purple flower is canvas. I painted it with oil paint and gelatos, then brushed on some mica powder, and finally I brushed on puddles of a mix of blue and purple  Lindy's Stamp Gang colors.

I put a paintbrush into a container of gesso, then literally flung it onto the paper, I'de say half a teaspoon.I repeated this in three or four areas of the page. I  then painted with layers of Twinkling H20s, thin layers of gesso, and more paint. In some areas its obvious I left the top layer just gesso.  I rubbed in some grey mica powder on the left side of the page. I covered the whole page with white mica powder, it makes everything look better, and takes the dull look off the gesso.

The sun kind of bleaches out the color, but you can see all the shine from the mica.  I find direct light shows every single detail, but on the negative side, you get a lot of shadows that also cover up things.

Vintage Page

For the July Inspiration Board Challenge at the Scraps of Darkness,Scraps of Elegance Mixed Media Community.

I was inspired by the whole inspiration board.

I painted some of the books onto the top right, and there is a metal locket that looks like a book, by the flowers at the right of the photo.

The pink and green colors, and the metal owl, are things I put in for the owl pic.

On the left side of the page I tried to paint what the boards looked like.

There's a hot air balloon at the upper left of the page.

I used the beautiful June Scraps of Elegance kit to make this.

Other materials used:

The Crafter's Workshop 6 x 6 Doodling Template - Cherry Blossoms
Lindys Stamp Gang
Twinkling H20s
Winsor and Newton Watercolors

Fairy on a Book Box

Hi everyone, Melissa here with a book box for Gina's Designs. I have two other book boxes I've made, and they're very convenient for stashing ATCs, and other small things.
I assembled the box and glued it with glossy accents, then put a few coats of gesso on both the inner and outer surfaces. I followed this with a thin wash of Lindys Stamp Gang. The binding area has a coat of gold liquid leaf paint.
The top is oil on canvas, it was inspired by Deanne's "Anything Under the Rainbow". I started out with bright colors, added a lot of white, then rubbed and brushed on mica powders in different colors.
I prepped the fairy with gesso, and painted her with watercolors. I put on a thin coat of glossy accents, then sprinkled on glitter. I repeated this, but made the glue layer thicker. I applied some silver stickles, and gold leaf paint.

Thanks for looking, and have a great weekend!
