Jing Tian

Hi everyone! This is my entry for the October 2017 Dusty Attic Challenge.

To make this page I took a piece of Pion paper and glued it to some cardboard. I wanted it to be free standing for when I took the photos, and I knew Id be putting on a lot of media, and wanted the paper to stay flat. I brushed on a layer of mat medium so that the paper didnt absorb paint that I planned to use.  I used the Cherry Blossom stencil from Prima to apply some texture paste. I had some cheesecloth from my last project to use on this one, I had dyed it black with gesso and water.  I painted a piece of cardboard Id shredded most of the top layer off with gesso, then steam punk copper, then a few layers of Ultra Thick Embossing Powder.  I rubbed on some gold mica powder on top.

The chipboard is coated with a layer of gesso, steampunk copper paint, gold mica powder rubbed on, and black gesso painted on the edges.
I sure love the gorgeous swirls of the chipboard, it kind of forms a crown for Jing Tian, a famous Chinese actress.

I used foam core board to give the layers some height.  I put on black lace and started adding paint and textural items: micro beads, mica flakes in gold and copper, seed beads, copper metallic embroidery thread, metal glitter, seahorse charms, star confetti, rhinestones, sequins, bling, cultured pearls, and gold foil from a champagne bottle.  By the brown flower is a Tim Holtz key, a piece of painted glass, and part of a Vintaj metal flower.  I sponged on a fair amount of gesso on the page, it was getting too busy looking.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Leonardo da Vinci

Hello! I'm here with my entry for the 7 Dots September Challenge: Favourite Historical Figure.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was a painter, an architect, inventor, and student of all things
scientific. His natural genius crossed so many disciplines that he epitomized the term "Renaissance
Man." Today he remains best known for his art, including two paintings that remain among the world's most famous and admired, Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. Art, da Vinci believed, was indisputably connected with science and nature. To make this page I have used paper, die-cut elements, and tags from the Writer's Block collection.

To make this page I glued 7 Dots Studio paper onto a piece of watercolor paper, so that it would stand freely outside when I did photos. I covered the page with mat medium so the paints and mediums didnt get absorbed by the paper. I put the layers of tags together for underneath the image, which Id mounted on some corrugated paper. I put texture paste on with a Prima stencil. I put some cheesecloth under the layers, I had dyed it with black gesso and water.

I painted around the circles with watered down black gesso, and also a Bark colored Derwent Inktense pencil. I put layers of copper and gold mica powder, and Steampunk Copper all around. I added some turquoise color with Liquid Pearls, and Finnabairs Mermaid Teal.

For added visual interest I added metal glitter, seed beads, micro beads, small pieces of dyed blue, I used Lindys Stamp Gang Tibetan Poppy Blue, and black cheesecloth, Vintage Glitter by Tim Holtz, sequins, and more.  The ribbon on the tag is silk from my LSS, dyed with Black Magic mist by Heidi Swapp.  On almost every circle I put on copper paint, copper Lindys, then a layer of Glossy Accents and Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint. I rubbed more copper mica powder and paint on, then a little Liquid Pearls.

At the end I thought things looked too busy, so I sponged on some white gesso, then painted with copper and rubbed on more copper mica powder.

The chipboard is layers of several kinds of paints and mediums, mostly Finnabairs Steampunk Copper.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Woman With Crown

Hi everyone! Here is my entry for the More Than Words
October 2017 Main Challenge DELICATE & FABRICS.

The photo has a very DELICATE look, with the gown and flowers.  I have echoed this with the wispy threads in the background, the chipboard leaves and scrolled frame pieces.  I added FABRIC, a piece of silk ribbon on the right.

To make this page I put some gesso on paper from Pion Design Palette, Pion Blue 1. I put texture paste on with a Prima stencil, then when dry sprayed on Tattered Angels Rich Mocha on a lot of the page. I glued layers of paper on top of corrugated cardboard for under the photo, but wound up taking off the edges on one, and painting over a sparkly blue layer. I used Prima Finnabair Art Alchemy Sparks Acrylic Paint Magical Pond on the chipboard frame with Clear Rock Candy on top, then more of the blue. I brushed some Prima Steampunk Copper on after I'd glued the frame on the photo.

On top you can see one of Finnabair's Mechanicals Grungy Butterflies

I sponged on a lot of gesso over the brown, it's pretty easy to cover. I dry brushed more of the blue paint on raised areas. On the right upper corner of the frame you can see a 7 Gypsies Display Pin with some silk ribbon from Scrap Shack in Friendswood Texas.

I glued on blue and white pearls, dyed cheesecloth, chain, beads, micro beads, mica flakes, and bling. I dyed the cheesecloth with blue Rasberry Tattered Angels.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Girl with Autumn Colors

Hi everyone! Here's a new DT page for the Mixed Media Warrior's Challenge Blog

The background paper is Pion Design Palette, Brown II. Anna gave me a huge supply because she likes my work.

I made a layout using this photo taken by Maja Topcagic with her permission.

To make this page I glued the paper to poster board, then applied texture paste with a Prima stencil. On top of sponged on gesso I sprayed with Tattered Angels mists, but covered up most of it with brown acrylic paint. I rubbed on some gold mica powder and used a little Steampunk Copper.
I dyed some lace given to me by Elizabeth Pipkin. I used Tim Holtz  Distress Inks in Twisted Citron and Bundled Sage, then topped it with some acrylic paints.
I painted the chipboard with Prima Alchemy paint in Mermaid Teal, TH blueprint sketch, and Steampunk Copper by Prima. I topped parts of the chipboard with Rock Candy crackle paint. I dyed some cheesecloth and placed it under the photo, and shredded some to put around the page. I added tulle around the photo.
The flowers are by Prima and Petaloo.

To add visual interest I applied micro beads, chain, bling, distress glitter, mica flakes, and sequins.

I brushed on Heidi Swapp black mist on top of the crackle on the chipboard. You can also see some turquoise metal glitter.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Bohemian Autumn

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a DT layout for the Mixed Media Warriors Challenge Blog

To make this page I used mat medium to glue the 7 Dots paper onto a piece of corrugated cardboard.  I shredded some of the top of another piece of cardboard for a mat. I put gesso on, then Prima Steampunk Copper, and layered it with embossing powder to give some texture. On the paper I put gesso on so any paint I put on wouldn't be absorbed by the paper. I applied texture paste with a Prima stencil, followed by Distress Ink.

On the chipboard I painted on Clear Rock Candy over paint and gesso. I dyed some cheesecloth with a combination of Winsor and Newton watercolors, and Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

The butterflies are from Graphic 45. The brad there is Prima.

The metal at the lower right of the photo is Vintaj. I tucked in some black tulle around the edges to give some more definition to the layers. I glued on some pieces of dried moss to give a little more outdoors look to the page.

To add more detail I put on a number of things: metal wire, sequins, metal glitter, a few Swarovski crystals, micro beads, glass beads, mica flakes, mica powder, pearls, feathers, and broken jewelry.

At the top you can see one of Finnabair's metal butterflies.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!
