Moment

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a new design team post for the amazing Shimmerzpaints! I love their rich texture and colors!

Photo credit: Davids Kokainis, at Unsplash.

To make this page I put the layers under the photo together first, including taping water color paper under the image to make it stronger and lie flat. Below that is a mat of watercolor paper, and at the bottom is corrugated cardboard. I tore off most the paper from the surface of the cardboard, and painted it with white gesso. I put two or three layers of cardboard between each of the layers to add dimension, and taped it to the background paper with double sided foam tape.

I applied Prima Platinum texture paste to Blue Fern's Jane Austen paper, with a small piece of a credit card, and a Tim Holtz stencil.

I picked out Reneabouquets Beautiful Board, figured out where it would go on the page, took it off, and prepped it with white gesso.I painted most of them with a mix of A Rose(By Any Other Name) and Honeymoon Inklingz. I layered on a thick coat of Clear Rock Candy Crackle. The Love word under the tulle is Dear John Letter Inklingz, with crackle on top.  The green leaf chipboard at the bottom is a mix of Green Olive Shimmerz, and Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz. I put a layer of crackle on top on these too.

I painted the mat with Penny 4 Your Thoughts and I Love You Onyxly Inklingz. The green is Green Olive Shimmerz. The corrugated is Honeymoon, I Love You Onyxly, and Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz. The background is Precious Metal Shimmerz on the left and right sides, and Penny 4 Your Thoughts on the bottom. You can't really see the Precious Metal on the left because I put black tulle over it, I wanted it to be darker there to balance the photo, and the tulle added some nice texture. I put some First Blush Inklingz at the top of the page.
The metal spoon by the left of the photo has a little 24 Karat Shimmerz Paint Foilz on it, it's a nice thick iridescent modeling paste I use to highlight texture with.

To add visual interest I glued on micro beads, seed beads, gold leaf, swarovski crystals, glass shard glitter, glass beads, pearls, iridescent wrapping paper, tulle, pressed flowers and leaves, feathers left by birds at the bird bath outside, fussy cut images from Prima, flowers from Reneabouquets and Prima, metal from Reneabouquets, and bling and metal from my stash.I rubbed and flicked on gold and silver  mica powder.

A lot of the textural elements are from Reneabouquets, including the printed Beautiful Board and plain Beautiful Board.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

The Little Things

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a new design team post for the amazing Shimmerzpaints! I love their rich texture and colors!

I put the layers with the photo on top of watercolor paper. then applied Prima Platinum texture paste with a small piece of a credit card,a Prima stencil.

I picked out Reneabouquets Beautiful Board, figured out where it would go on the page, took it off, and prepped it with white gesso.

I painted the mat with Honeymoon,Steely Blue Eyes,  and Hot Stuff Inklingz .The corrugated and background paper has a lot of different colors.

To add visual interest I glued on mica powder, micro beads, seed beads, green wire, gold leaf, swarovski crystals, glass shard glitter, glass beads, pearls, tulle, pressed flowers and leaves, lichen, feathers left to my birds at the bird bath outside, fussy cut images from Prima and Graphic 45,flowers from Reneabouquets and metal from Reneabouquets, Vintaj, and bling and metal from my stash.  A lot of the textural elements are from Reneabouquets, including the printed Beautiful Board.

I used a lot of colors, with a lot of water. I put water on the page with a brush, a few inches of page, then added color. I had all the colors on a ceramic plate. Once on the page, I added more water till I felt it blended ok. Once it dried, if I thought the edges were too hard I added more water to blend the lines. I also dabbed off excess color and water with a tissue. That was fun for me, these are colors I love, and the paint is so awesome to work with.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Reneabouquets Design Team Page, "An Open Heart", by Melissa Larson

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a new page for the amazing Reneabouquets. Go and see all the fun treasures there!

To make this page I applied clear gesso to Prima paper.

I put the layers under the photo together, starting with taping on watercolor paper under the image to make it stronger and to lie flat. Below that is a watercolor paper mat, and at the bottom is corrugated cardboard. I tore off most of the paper from the top of the cardboard, and painted it with gesso.I put two or three layers of cardboard between the layers to add dimension.

I put the layers with the photo onto the page.

I had already painted the page with clear gesso. I applied Prima Platinum crackle paste with a stencil and an old credit card. I picked out Beautiful Board, and sponged on gesso.

I brushed on Shimmerz paints in pale aqua, pink, and grey. I used green and grey colors on the watercolor paper mat and corrugated, and brushed white ink over the mat. I brushed white ink over a lot of the items on the page to tie things together. I put ink on some of the background paper to make things look less busy.

To add visual interest I added micro beads, seed beads, gold leaf, glass glitter, glass beads, pearls, rhinestones, pressed flowers, metal from Reneabouquets,Tim Holtz, and Vintaj, flowers from  Reneabouquets, dyed Tim Holtz ribbon, and bling and metal from my stash. Most of the things are glued on individually with Glossy Accents. There are some fussy cut images from Prima papers.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Reneabouquets Artists With An Edge September 2020 Moodboard Challenge

Hi everyone! It's September, which means there is a new mood board challenge in the Reneabouquets Artists With an Edge Facebook Group

Beautiful Board (BB)Chipboard will celebrate its 3rd Birthday this year on September 1st!! I've focused on using Beautiful Board on this page. To help celebrate, the giveaway for this challenge will be a large amount of BB.

In case you are new to my blog, we do a mood board challenge every month in the Reneabouquets Artists With an Edge Facebook Group. Everyone who enters a new project using items from Reneabouquets, gets entered into a chance to win a Reneabouquets prize package at the end of the month.

Here is the kick off project that I made for this month's challenge.

This photo is of Maude Fealy, a famous stage actress from around 1900.

To make this page I applied clear gesso to Blue Fern Jane's Memoirs paper.

I brushed on white gesso on the page where I planned on glueing things on. I picked out Beautiful Board, and sponged on gesso.

I drew out the shapes and the black and white of the photo onto the layers. I added pale aqua, teal and  gold Shimmerzpaints, and layers of gesso, black ink, and mica powders.

I painted all the BB with gold mica powder and water, and some Dragon's Eye Spark's acrylic paint from Finnabair.

To add visual interest I added micro beads, seed beads, gold leaf, glass glitter, glass beads, pearls, rhinestones, bark and lichen, white tulle, metal from Reneabouquets,Tim Holtz, and Vintaj, flowers from  Reneabouquets,Prima, and bling and metal from my stash. Most of the things are glued on individually with Glossy Accents. There are some fussy cut images from Prima papers.
As a final touch I rubbed on Prima wax in white gold over some of the stencil work, and around the borders of the page. I think it gave it a nice grungy look.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!
