Beautiful Girl and Spring Colors

Hi everyone! Melissa here with my Design Team take on the March Mood Board, at Mixed Media Warriors. Spring is the best season here in Texas, and we're right in the middle of it now. 

  I have used a photo of my son's beautiful girlfriend,Aron. 

I used the color palette in the bottom middle photo of the moodboard.

To make this page I took a sheet of 12 x 12 watercolor paper and put some gauze on with gesso. I put homemade texture paste on with a few stencils. I painted it with a mix of white acrylic paint and Lindy's Stamp Gang. I painted over some of the page with white paint to create some negative space,  then used a brush to apply texture paste to several areas.

To add visual interest I put on flowers, pearls, die cut sizzix leaves and butterflies,micro beads,seed beads,and bling.

I ran a bark colored Derwent Inktense Watercolor Pencil over the surface by holding the pencil sideways,I wanted to make the gauze texture more visible.

I used several kinds of Prima and Petaloo flowers.  I made the chiffon purple one.

Peacock

Do you love color? I do, and here's a page that I think shows it. I used the beautiful Door to Atlantis Colorways paper from Paper House as my background for this project. I love how the paper creates a soft and peaceful mood . I found it hard to put anything on the gorgeous detail of these doors, but I plan on using the other piece I have for the cover of an art journal.

To make this layout I sponged on gesso to prepare the background for the paint and textures I planned to use. I put the photo on watercolor paper with some foam core board in between to add dimension. I applied texture paste with a stencil, brushed on a layer of watercolors, then randomly dabbed on gold mica powder with my finger. I added more paint, and penciled in some areas with watercolor pencils. I glued on micro beads with glossy accents, and dabbed on another layer of mica.

I drew out some of the colors and details of the photo onto the paper behind it, and also used a blue butterfly to add visual interest.

I used glass glitter, tulle,and a stamped peacock image, for more texture. Thanks for looking, and have a great day!

Soccer

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a page for Paper House. I love the photorealism of these papers, the colors and details are amazing!

My son Nick didn't want to be goalie at this game,this is his "angry" expression. Nick played soccer for ten years, and my husband coached the team he was on. You could say the game was a big part of our lives!

To make this page I took a piece of  corrugated cardboard and tore the top layer off. I painted it with yellow and orange acrylic paint. I pressed on embossing ink around the edges with a pad, poured on clear embossing powder, and heated it. I dry brushed on layers of gold paint,turquoise Vintaj patina paint,metallic turquoise acrylic paint, linen distress embossing powder, micro beads,and mica flakes. I topped it off with white gesso, and rubbed on some pearl mica powder.

Underneath the photo is a piece of canvas with a fringe, to pick up on the look of  my son's hair.

I sprayed water on the edge of the canvas, then took a straight pin and pulled out the horizontal threads. After doing that to the four sides,I applied gesso, then black watercolor.

I used mod podge to adhere two extra sheets of old scrapbooking paper underneath the black cardstock, to keep the top layer very flat.

There are three die cuts around the page that I pressed into an embossing ink pad, then sprinkled gold embossing powder on, and heated. I did the same thing with copper powder but in smaller areas.

I applied gesso with a cosmetic sponger around the photo, applied mod podge, then sprinkled on linen colored embossing powder on top. I wanted it to look like dirt, and think I was successful! I added a few metal pieces and flowers to finish the page.
