Shimmerz Design Team post, Adventure Awaits You, by Melissa Larson

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a design team page for the Shimmerz Paints Color Challenge. This month, we picked out a color we wouldn't normally use. This shade of blue,Ultra Marine Shimmerz,is kind of cold to me. I had to add a lot of aqua colors on the page to warm it up. The ultramarine is mostly on the chipboard. I've used a photo from my son and daughter in laws wedding.

To make this page I used scrapbook paper, applied clear gesso, and white gesso for around the photo. I stenciled on texture paste.  I painted the chipboard with Ultra Marine Shimmerz , and topped it with a thick coat of Ranger Clear Rock Candy Crackle.

To add visual interest I added micro beads, seed beads, copper leaf, glass glitter, distress glitter, glitter glue, glass beads, pearls, Swarovski crystals, rhinestones, sequins,  pressed flowers and leaves, bark, lichen, sisal, tulle, lace, iridescent wrapping paper, metal from Tim Holtz, flowers from Prima and Reneabouquets, pieces of floral picks, and bling and metal from my stash. The gorgeous butterfly is from Reneabouquets.

I used the following colors for the background: Dear John Letter, Blue My Mind, and Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz. The second two colors have been discontinued.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Now it's your turn! Our entire team is trying one color that we normally wouldn’t choose. Something that helps us branch out and grow as designers. Come join us! Use the hashtag #shimmerzcolorchallenge to share your projects and how they inspired you to try something new. We can’t wait to see what you create!

Two Cards for the Shimmerz Paints Design Team Color Challenge, by Melissa Larson

Hi everyone! Melissa here with two design team cards for the Shimmerz Paints Color Challenge. This month, we picked out a color we wouldn't normally use. This shade of blue,Ultra Marine Shimmerz,is kind of cold to me. In the end, I liked having a page that was out of my color zone, because it was a refreshing change.

To make these cards I used paper from Prima's Spring Farmhouse Collection. I applied texture paste to a piece with an old credit card. I put a layer of Prima paper underneath it,and a smaller image on top. There are layers of cardboard glued between each piece.

I picked out Beautiful Board from Reneabouquet, applied gesso with a brush, painted with gold mica powder and water,  applied a thick layer of Ranger Clear Rock Candy Crackle, and glued the BB on the cards. I glued on the flowers, and fussy cut pieces.

To add visual interest I added micro beads, seed beads, glass and metal glitter, metal shard glitter, pearl mica flakes, glass beads, pearls, sequins, pressed flowers and leaves, bark, lichen, moss, sisal, tulle, lace, silk ribbon, iridescent wrapping paper, Prima flowers,  pieces of floral picks, metal from Reneabouquet, and bling and metal from my stash.

I put the layers on a 6 x 6 card made out of white cardstock.

I painted with Ultra Marine Shimmerz and  Pixie Dust Shimmerz

I splashed gesso with water around the page, and dry brushed a lot with gesso.

I used a lot of gold mica powder around the page.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Reneabouquets DT Project - "Embrace Beautiful Chaos", by Melissa Larson

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a new page for the amazing Reneabouquets, go and see all the beautiful things there! I've used a photo from free google, by Stella de libero.

To make this page I applied texture paste to watercolor paper with an old credit card. I put the layers under the photo together, starting with taping on card stock under the image to make it stronger. Below that is a layer of watercolor paper, and at the bottom is corrugated cardboard. I tore off most the paper from the surface, and painted it with gesso. While it was wet I poured on Ultra Thick Embossing Powder, and heated it until it was just melted. I put two layers of cardboard between the layers to add dimension.

I put the layers with the photo onto the page.

I picked out Beautiful Board, painted with Butterfly Spells Prima Sparks, dry brushed on layers of gold acrylic, Teal the End Of Time Shimmerz ,and topped it with a thick layer of Clear Rock Candy Crackle. Later I dabbed on gold mica powder and the Shimmerz in a few places. I made the crackle show by holding a brush full of blue watercolor paint next to the edge of it, it absorbs the color.

The rhinestone and pearl button is from Reneabouquets.

I painted the background by brushing on water in strips, and adding watercolor in blue, pale pink, and gold. I added white ink in areas later to cut back on some of the color and busyness of the page. I dry brushed with gesso in a lot of places.

To add visual interest I added micro beads, seed beads, gold leaf, glass glitter, glass beads, pearls, Swarovski crystals, rhinestones, sequins, a glass pebble and marbles, pressed flowers and leaves, bark, strands of cheesecloth, tulle, lace, iridescent wrapping paper, metal from Tim Holtz, shells, flowers from Prima and Reneabouquets, pieces of floral picks, and bling and metal from my stash. The gorgeous butterfly is from Reneabouquets.

Above you can see I took a black pen and outlined some Beautiful Board and texture paste.

I splashed Higgins white ink around the page.

I edged the the corrrugated and watercolor paper mat, with Amsterdam Black Ink.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Reneabouquets DT Project - "Make A Difference", a page by Melissa Larson

The background is watercolor paper.

I put the layers with the photo onto the page.

I picked out Beautiful Board, applied gesso with a brush, painted with gold mica powder and water, glued the BB on the page with Glossy Accents, and applied a thick layer of Clear Rock Candy Crackle.

I brushed on water on the bg paper, and Shimmerz Paints, I did this with several colors. Some I dabbed off, and here and there I sprinkled on Diamond Chunky Glitter Glass into the wet paint.

To add visual interest I added micro beads, seed beads, gold leaf, glass glitter, distress glitter, glass beads, pearls, Swarovski crystals, rhinestones, glass pebbles, pressed flowers and leaves, strands of cheesecloth, tulle, lace, gold leaf, metal from Tim Holtz, a flower from Prima, pieces of floral picks, and bling and metal from my stash.

I took colors from the photo and put pink mica powder and water over the corrugated, along with pink Shimmerz Paint, in Hot Stuff. I tried to balance the intensity of the black and the pink, with the background.  For one of the final steps,I tucked in black tulle under the corrugated.

I splashed Higgins white ink around the page.

I used some Prima and Finnabair stamps with black ink.

I edged the the corrrugated, watercolor paper mat, and some of the chipboard with Amsterdam Black Ink.

I used a Bark colored Derwent Inktense Watercolor Pencil to scribble around some of the raised textures, then brushed over them with water.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

To make this page I applied texture paste with a stencil onto watercolor paper. I put the layers under the photo together, starting with taping on card stock under the image to make it stronger. Below that is a layer of watercolor paper, and at the bottom is corrugated cardboard.I tore off most of the paper from the surface of the cardboard, and painted it with gesso. I put layers of  cardboard between everything, to add dimension.

I picked out Beautiful Board, applied gesso with a cosmetic sponge, then painted it with Shimmerz Paints, gold ink, and when dry, topped it with a thick coat of Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint. You can also see gold mica powder, I dabbed it on to sort of tie everything together.
